Amnesty for the south?

To forgive or to let go... Well that's hard to do for a lot of people. For the south, they should have a second chance because they might change for the better. However, if people don't change for the better and take advantage of the privilege of a having a second chance then they shouldn't get to have amnesty. There are some people who do deserve to have it, and for the people that are willing to accept the law and change. And for that the south should have amnesty.

How were former slaves educated and what roadblocks did they encounter?

I think slaves couldn't have been educated even if they wanted to because the situation they were in didn't allow them to be educated. They were discriminated against. They were always working too. The landowners kids had the right to go to school, but the kids of the slaves didn't have that privilege. Also, at that time, there wouldn't be anyone who would want to teach African-Americans how to read and write. They were treated horribly they had many roadblocks and didn't even have the chance to get educated.

Stereotypes... ugh.

Stereotypes are formed from rumors. Rumors usually are started by people who don't know what their talking about. However, usually, stereotypes are conclusions that people come up with when they judge a person from a race or sex. Like how all Americans are lazy, all African-Americans love fried chicken cool-aid, and all women don't know how to drive. Sometimes people believe these stereotypes because they don't know otherwise. Instead of doing research, people like to just go along with it for some reason. Sometimes stereotypes are funny and some are demeaning. I don't think stereotypes will ever go away, but I do think there will be new ones...

Can a moral idea win a war?!

Lt. Col. Chamberlain right? Definitely! He spoke about how everyone should be free in America. No one should have to be treated differently. In the past, people fought over land, women, money, etc. My favorite part was when he said "we are an army out to set other men free". That basically summarizes his speech. I think a moral idea can win a war because it's not hard to choose right from wrong.

When documenting stories, countries should defiantly write the positive and the negative things that have happened. People should have the right to form their own opinion about their country's history. Most of the time countries leave out the bad stuff that have happened because they are ashamed of how they acted or what they did. Pride is more important than the truth, because the truth makes them look bad & the pride gives them the okay to hide all the mistakes that happened. I think they think it's okay because it was the past and it doesn't matter anymore. However, that doesn't make any sense because the past represents who they are today. Sometimes someone has to do a little bad to do some good. Learning from mistakes is better than denying them.
History does matter because it defines who we are, and one decision long time ago makes a big difference today. The past is going to be part of the future, because history repeats itself. All the battles and wars that had taken place years ago are important today. Everything happens for a reason, and with history it helps us understand who we are and where we come from. Everyone's history is different, and because of that it raises appreciation for our own heritage.
